The aim of the project is to combine all three museum buildings into a fully functioning complex with a comfortable layout, more exhibition halls, sufficient storage space and an outdoor space integrated into the programme. The project includes the restoration of the two historic museum buildings, as well as the complete refurbishment of the existing museum extension, creating more exhibition space and increasing the storage space, some of which is planned to be on display.
We offer a rational and fully functioning museum, ensuring the circulation of visitors in all three museum buildings. This has been solved by creating a new, environmentally accessible main entrance block, with a lobby, staircase and lift capable of connecting all public areas.
The courtyard of the museum has undergone a major transformation, with the remodelling of the existing museum extension, creating a volume with three projecting buttresses, perforated with a stylised museum logo on the metal facade, creating a new image for the building. The landscaping was created in collaboration with landscape studio ALPS. It is inspired by the river, the fortress and the lily depicted in the coat of arms of Daugavpils, in other words – a road, a house, a prayer. Connecting the historical with the contemporary.
